One 60-day cruise around Australia has been cancelled in the wake of the fatal incident of an older female passenger who was abandoned by the ship on a distant tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been walking on the remote island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a rest. The ship sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the ship staff discovered the lady was unaccounted for.

An extensive search operation found her remains the following day.

Authorities are examining the event, alongside police and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the shipping company said that guests and crew on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the rest of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and previous engine troubles".

Via official communication, he further stated that travelers would be provided a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to organize the homeward trips of the individuals via private aircraft".

Officials also published an latest communication, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The representative said that they would visit the ship in the port city upon its return.

Timeline of Incidents

The vessel initially left the Australian port on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the moment of the elderly woman's passing. Lizard Island was the first stop on the voyage.

Guests on the vessel - who typically pay tens of thousands of currency to participate in the expedition - were taken there for a shore visit with the choice of hiking or snorkeling.

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her loved ones was "stunned and grieved that the liner left the island after an planned excursion without my parent".
