The Princess of Wales's Yearly Yuletide Service of Carols Honours Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The sizable congregation will listen to a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Focusing on Love and Generosity

The theme of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The princess has been making her own gradual return to public life following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to budding artists aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the former royal to increase availability of instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the organisation, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be playing at the concert.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
