Much like the recent storm tore through the northern region the previous evening, City overwhelmed Manchester United away at the their home ground. It was a emphatic three-nil victory for the City coach's side thanks to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Hemp. It was a result that clearly signaled their championship potential as they strengthened their standing at the league summit.

Back-to-Back Losses for United

This scoreline signalled consecutive league losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the initial occasion since spring 2024, putting them a significant margin off the table toppers with their title hopes severely dented.

Manchester United's capability to manage domestic and continental soccer with a small team has been a hotly discussed subject since they qualified for the European competition. Considering the fixture list, it always felt like this was the period that would seriously challenge this fortitude. Unfortunately for the opposition, they looked tired throughout, the landmark win against Paris Saint-Germain clearly having had an impact.

Tactical Shifts

Skinner had attempted to freshen things up with a handful of changes. Ella Toone, Elisabeth Terland, Dominique Janssen and Leah Galton all brought energy, although the omission of the high-performing Malard to the substitutes was questioned.

The home side, meanwhile, could have increased their advantage when a delightful Miedema through ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fail to convert but it did not affect the result to the hosts.
